Kathmandu, Nepal, October 6, 2020: Tokushima Prefecture in Japan has sent a video message supporting the Nepalese national team for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
The two and a half-minute video shows clips of young Japanese swimmers, schoolgirls and the public waving Nepalese flags and shouting words of welcome and greeting in both Japanese and Nepalese.
The video has been shot in swimming pools as well as an archery field, highlighting the fact that athletes from these two sports will represent Nepal at the re-scheduled Olympics next year.
Tokushima Prefecture on the island of Shikoku is the host city for Nepal at the Tokyo Olympics.
In a message sent on Tuesday, October 6, the Japanese city said: “To express our gratitude for the cultural exchanges so far, and that we hope to meet again in Tokushima in 2021, we would like to send a video message to the Nepalese national swimming team and archery team whose pre-training camps will be held in Tokushima.”
The Nepal Olympic Committee last year selected 11 athletes from seven sports for the Olympic Solidarity-funded athlete scholarship programme to prepare for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. The swimmers are Gaurika Singh and Shuvam Shrestha and the archers are Gyanu Awale and Tilak Pun Magar.
