Kotani succeeds Murofushi at Tokyo 2020

Tokyo, Japan, October 1, 2020: World swimming governing body FINA has congratulated Mikako Kotani on succeeding Koji Murofushi as the new Sports Director of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

In a Facebook post, FINA said: “Congratulations to former Artistic Swimmer 🇯🇵 KOTANI Mikako appointed as new Tokyo 2020 Sports Director. 

“KOTANI Mikako is a three-time World Championships and two-time Olympic Medalist in Solo and Duet events. 

“She retired in 1992 and continued her important work as an active member of Japan’s sporting community.”

Murofushi will become the new Commissioner of the Japan Sports Agency.

“Six and a half years, I can work with my wonderful friends, and I can only thank you,” he posted on his Facebook account on September 30.

“Thank you very much. Finally it was my last day at the Tokyo 2020 Office. I can't thank enough this wonderful team!”

Murofushi is also Chairman of the OCA Athletes' Committee and a member of the OCA Executive Board.
