Colombo, Sri Lanka, September 30, 2020: The National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka will join a global walking relay being organised by The Association For International Sport for All (TAFISA) this coming weekend.
The TAFISA World Walking Day will be a 24-hour activity and is being described as the most accessible and inclusive relay around the world.
On Sunday, October 4, people and organisations will pass the baton across all 24 time zones from east to west to celebrate the power of sport and physical activity in unifying the world during the COVID-19 crisis. It will start at 10am local time around the world.
“NOC Sri Lanka is proud to represent Sri Lanka in this global event,” the NOC said in a press release.
NOC Sri Lanka is organising a half-day event near Kelaniya Temple where approximately 75 sports people including roller-skaters, athletes, members of the Executive Board and Athlete Commission and staff of the NOC Sri Lanka, sport administrators and media will gather.
The programme will commence with an introductory speech and then the roller-skaters shall do the baton relay around the temple while others walk around the temple. Throughout the programme, COVID-19 instruction shall be strictly followed.
Following the walk, group-fun activities will be organised by the NOC staff and all the participants shall be awarded participation certificate.
“Joining the ‘TAFISA World Walking Day – 24 hours around the globe’ means to us ‘Together we can win any kind of social barriers by respecting and helping others,” the NOC added.
