Cambodia NOC Sec-Gen Vath receives WOA honour

Phnom Penh, Cambodia, September 29, 2020: The Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC), HE Vath Chamroeun, has received a Certificate of Recognition from the World Olympians Association.

The award allows Vath to carry the letters OLY after his name in recognition of his service to the Olympic movement as an athlete, official and administrator.

Vath, 47, is also Secretary General of the Organising Committee of the 32nd Southeast Asian (SEA) Games to be held in Cambodia in 2023 – the first time the “Kingdom of Wonder” will have hosted the regional sports fest since it began in 1959.

In a press release, CAMSOC said: “The World Olympians Association has officially issued a letter of recognition to HE Vath Chamroeun, one of the outstanding former Olympic athletes who has helped uphold the values of the Olympic movement.

“HE Vath Chamroeun, Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia, said he was very grateful and honoured to receive this award from the world sports movement and added that the recognition belonged to the whole Cambodian nation.”

Vath started out as a martial arts trainer in a variety of martial arts, such as karate and wrestling, and took part in the Olympic Games freestyle wrestling competition at Atlanta 1996. He also participated in many major international events.

The press release added: “He has been involved in Cambodian sport since childhood. His Excellency has always worked hard to develop himself from an athlete to become an expert in sports activities, Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee of 

Cambodia, Secretary General of the National Organising Committee of the 32nd Southeast Asian Games 2023 (CAMSOC) and national sports federations. He also has a role in the government as the current Secretary of State of the Ministry of Tourism."
