Beijing, China, September 28, 2020: The Winter Youth Olympic Games (YOG) Lausanne 2020 picked up the prize for “Best Winter Sports Competition 2019/2020” at the Winter Sports TOPS Awards in Beijing earlier this month.

For this entry, submitted by Switzerland Tourism, the jury noted the considerable success of these Winter YOG as they brought together 1,872 young athletes from around the world to commemorate and carry the values of Olympism back to their home towns.

During the Games in Lausanne, new formats such as mixed or multi-national events and parallel sports and cultural events were introduced, and showed once again how sport can bring people together. The award recognises the work that was done to transmit the Olympic values and the overall success of the event.

The Winter Sports TOPS Awards were launched in 2016 as a celebration of winter sports around the world, and to help encourage more people in China to participate in winter sports. The Awards categories cover many areas of winter sport, such as stadiums, resorts, events and digital media.
