OCA Women and Sports Committee Chair Shaikha Hayat makes key webinar presentations

Manama, Bahrain, September 17, 2020: The Chair of the OCA Women and Sports Committee, HE Shaikha Hayat bint Abdulaziz Al Khalifa, has been a prominent speaker in two recent webinars.

The most recent was when Shaikha Hayat particiapted in the Women's Sports Forum 2020 held on the occasion of Emirati Women's Day which falls on August 28 each year.

Shaikha Hayat is a board member of the Bahrain Olympic Committee, Chairwoman of the BOC Women's Sport Committee, head of the Women's Sports Organising Committee of the Gulf Cooperation Council and a member of the IOC Women in Sport Commission.

The Women's Sports Forum 2020 was organised by the UAE’s General Authority for Sport in cooperation with the Fatima Bint Mubarak Academy for Women’s Sports, with the participation of a number of prominent female sports figures from UAE and GCC countries.

The forum discussed nine topics, foremost of which was the role of the government and private sector in supporting women’s sports, presented by Shaikha Hayat.

Her presentation focused on 19 key points and stressed the continuous efforts of the IOC in advancing women's sport, sustainability in government strategies and policies and private sector investment in elite athletes, sponsorship and the establishment of private sports academies.

Sheikha Hayat acknowledged with appreciation the major support granted by HH Shaikha Fatima bint Mubarak to Emirati and Arab girls and her distinguished initiative to improve the girls in different aspects including training, leadership and competition. 

Moreover she extended her appreciation to UAE’s General Authority for Sports, including Secretary General HE Saeed Abdulghaffar and board member Dr. May Aljaber, for their vital work in developing sports in general in the UAE.

Earlier, Shaikha Hayat was a guest speaker at the International Athletes' Forum organised by the Saudi Arabian Athletes' Commission of the Saudi Arabian Olympic Committee, under the patronage of the SAOC President, HRH Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal Al-Saud.

Shaikha Hayat, who is also President of the Bahrain Table Tennis Association, explained the importance of government initiatives to promote sport and a healthy lifestyle and for creating an appropriate environment for women to exercise and practise sport.
