Colombo, Sri Lanka, September 13, 2020: The President of the Boxing Association of Sri Lanka, Dian Gomes, has been appointed as an Executive Committee member of the world boxing body AIBA.

Gomes, who is widely known as the ‘Godfather’ of boxing in the island nation, is the first Sri Lankan to be appointed to the Executive Committee of the International Boxing Association.

“I am fully confident that you will be an important asset to the AIBA Executive Committee, and that you will contribute your extensive boxing experience to expand and develop our sport. I look forward to working together with you on the Committee,” said AIBA President Dr. Mohamed Moustahsane.

Last year Gomes also held the honour of being the first Sri Lankan to be appointed to the Executive Committee of the Asian Boxing Confederation.

Before moving into the decision-making body of AIBA, Gomes has served in many other roles including being a member of the finance commission, marketing commission and women’s commission.
