Kabul, Afghanistan, September 9, 2020: All sports activities in Afghanistan have resumed after a six-month break, according to the Afghanistan National Olympic Committee.

Hafizullah Wali Rahimi, head of the Physical Education and Youth Ministry and Afghanistan NOC President, said last week that sports activities locked down for six months due to the coronavirus outbreak had re-started but with participants having to follow strict health guidelines.

“With the confirmation of the emergency commission, and the letter that has been sent by the Ministry of Public Health, sports activities will be allowed in Kabul and other provinces but must follow the health safety requirements of the Public Health Ministry and World Health Organisation,” Rahimi said.

Khwaja Hashmatullah Rasa, Secretary General of the Afghanistan Taekwondo Federation, said: “Our national athletes were affected by the six-month break. They will now prepare for national and international events.”

Among the domestic competitions set to resume is the Afghanistan Cricket Board’s Shpageeza Cricket League with matches being held at Kabul Cricket Stadium from September 6-16.

Six teams will participate with the league intended to help Afghan players prepare for international competitions.
