Dubai, United Arab Emirates, September 9, 2020: The General Assembly of the United Arab Emirates National Olympic Committee has decided to extend the term of the current Executive Committee until after the Tokyo Olympics next year.
At an extraordinary meeting of the General Assembly, held online on Tuesday, September 8, it was agreed to postpone the elections of the Executive Committee.
UAE NOC President Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum presided over the General Assembly. The President is not up for re-election until 2021 as he was given a four-year term in 2017.
The General Assembly also decided to authorise Sheikh Ahmed to amend and adopt the NOC’s Charter.
Sheikh Ahmed had emphasised the need for all Sports Federations in the Emirates to prepare a long-term development plan that would benefit athletes in training and urged them to keep abreast with the latest developments in their individual sport.
He also stressed the importance of coping with the coronavirus pandemic and called for stringent precautionary measures to be put in place to ensure the safety of all UAE athletes.
Also taking part in the online General Assembly were Hamid Al-Qatami, Vice President of the UAE NOC, and Mohammed bin Salim, NOC Secretary General.
