Athletes celebrate Independence Day in Malaysia

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, August 31, 2020: Malaysian sports leaders and athletes joined in the Independence Day celebrations on Monday, August 31.

“Merdeka! Merdeka! Merdeka!” said the Olympic Council of Malaysia, meaning “Freedom”, as Malaysia celebrated the 63rd anniversary of independence gained on August 31, 1957.

Two-time Olympic Games diving medallist Pandelela Rinong posted on her Facebook account: “Appreciate and enjoying today - well-deserved break. Selamat Hari Merdeka and happy holiday to all Malaysians.”

Synchro partner Leong Mun Yee, a four-time Olympian, said: "Happy 63rd Independence Day! I'm Leong Mun Yee. I'm a Malaysian child and this is #MyNegaraku. #SelamatHariKebangsaan2020.”

Cheong Jun Hoong, world champion in women’s platform in 2017, posted: “Those ups and downs in your life created the one and only you. My off day tomorrow (Monday) & Happy National Day!”
