OCA’s Sporting Asia marks 50th edition

Kuwait City, Kuwait, August 27, 2020: The new edition of the Olympic Council of Asia’s official newsletter Sporting Asia is ready for download from the OCA website www.ocasia.org.

The latest Sporting Asia – for September 2020 – is the landmark 50th edition since the OCA launched the publication in 2009.

It includes a special message from the OCA President, HE Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah, thanking all 45 National Olympic Committees and OCA games organisers for providing a constant flow of news to Sporting Asia in order to share their experiences and unite the Olympic movement in Asia.

In the 40-page magazine, Sporting Asia focuses on the June 23 Olympic Day celebrations around the continent which were held during the pandemic and, therefore, varied a lot from country to country, region to region.

Still, the enthusiasm for Olympic Day and the Olympic movement in general shines through, notably in a Sporting Asia Art Gallery devoted to a children’s art competition conducted by the Kazakhstan Olympic Committee.

There is also a report on the 136th IOC Session, held remotely on July 17 for the first time in Olympic history and when two new Asian IOC Members were elected, as well as an OCA tribute to badminton great Lin Dan, who has announced his retirement after a glittering career featuring two Olympic Games gold medals.

Regular features such as NOC News in Pictures, Inside the OCA, OCA Games Update, Women in Sport, News in Brief and OCA Sports Diary provide the staple content of Sporting Asia.

Sporting Asia, which began as an eight-page newsletter in 2009, has jumped to 40 pages for the first time due to the support of the eight Prestige Partners for the 19th Asian Games Hangzhou 2022.
