Tokyo, Japan, August 24, 2020: With exactly one year to go to the start of the Paralympic Games in Tokyo, the Central Asia Regional Anti-Doping Organisation (RADOCA) and the Japan Anti-Doping Agency (JADA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to enhance cooperation for clean sport.
The MOU sets out a number of objectives related to overall capacity-building and strategy development for the member countries of RADOCA in line with the 2021 World Anti-Doping Code.
Through this MOU, both parties agreed to cooperate especially on the development of the education programme and the promotion of the related materials and activities.
It is expected to exchange ideas as well as share practical knowledge, good practices and activities for building the capacity of the RADOCA member countries and for expanding clean sport environment in the Central Asia region.
In light of the 2021 World Anti-Doping Code and new International Standard for Education (ISE) and Results Management (ISRM) coming into place in January 2021, RADOCA and JADA have organised a series of webinars to support those implementations among eight RADOCA member countries: Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
Prof. Hidenori Suzuki, JADA Chair, said: “Over the past few years, RADOCA and JADA have worked closely for the development of clean sport under ‘Sport for Tomorrow’ - a legacy project for Tokyo2020 led by the Japanese Government.
“We believe that this MOU can further contribute to the protection of athletes’ rights to compete in drug-free sport. The development of the anti-doping capacity of those Central Asian countries under this formal agreement is a wonderful step forward for achieving a clean, fair and true sport together.”
RADOCA Chair Dr. Maira Bakasheva commented: “This event is truly an exciting moment for us. The memorandum is a logical continuation of our close cooperation with JADA in the field of education, actively supported over the past year.
“Anti-doping education is the key to the future of clean sport and a guarantee of protecting the athletes' rights to fair sport.”
