Mongolia NOC elects Olympic judo champion as new President

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, August 17, 2020: The Mongolia National Olympic Committee Extraordinary General Assembly was held on August 14 in Ulaanbaatar. 

In accordance with the Mongolia NOC statutes, any vacancy within the Executive Board shall be filled by the election of a new member at the next General Assembly for the remainder of the initial term of office – in this case, the new President and Vice President.

The Extraordinary General Assembly elected Tuvshinbayar Naidan as the new NOC President. He is the Olympic judo champion from Beijing 2008 and Olympic Games silver medallist of London 2012.

Naranbaatar Choijgavaa, former Chairman of Physical Culture at the Sports Authority of the Implementing Agency of the Government of Mongolia, was elected as a Mongolia NOC Vice President.

Tuvshinbayar Naidan joined the national judo team in 2006. He has been Chairman of the Executive Board of the Tuvshinsan Foundation since 2010 and advisor to the Mongolian President Mr. Kh. Battulga since 2017.

As well as his gold and silver medals from the 2008 and 2012 Olympic Games, he won the gold medal at the 2016 Asian Championships, a bronze medal at the 2017 World Championships and many other medals from IJF competitions and European tournaments.

The former Mongolia NOC President, Dr. Demchigjav Zagdsuren, held the title since 2001. Under his leadership, the NOC built its own Olympic Headquarters office, created Olympic Councils in 21 provinces of Mongolia to promote Olympic values throughout Mongolia and initiated the Olympic Library and Olympic Museum. 

Also, during his Presidency, Mongolia won its first two Olympic gold medals in history from Beijing 2008.

On August 17, the former President Dr. D. Zagdsuren handed the Mongolia NOC stamp to the new Mongolia NOC President Tuvshinbayar Naidan and wished the delegation all success for the upcoming Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

The Mongolia NOC Executive Board members, staff and local TV and journalists participated in the ceremony.
