Tehran, Iran, August 10, 2020: Iraq and Kuwait have accepted invitations to play in a four-team futsal tournament on Kish Island in September.
The Iranian Football Federation announced that the senior men’s national futsal teams of Iraq and Kuwait would join the Iran national team and the Iran Under-20s in a four-team competition from September 14 to 23.
The federation had originally planned to host a six-team tournament and invitations were also sent to Belarus and Ukraine, but these had been declined due to concerns over the COVID-19 pandemic.
Iran will be using this tournament as a build-up to defend its title at the upcoming AFC Futsal Championship in November. Turkmenistan was to host this event but has now withdrawn due to the coronavirus outbreak.
According to Mehr News Agency, Kuwait has made a bid to host the event.
