UAE NOC Executive Office recommends elective general assembly postponement

Dubai, United Arab Emirates, August 6, 2020: The Executive Office of the United Arab Emirates National Olympic Committee has proposed to postpone the General Assembly and NOC elections until late 2021, the UAE NOC announced on August 5.

The proposal has the blessing of the NOC President, His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and means the elective General Assembly will take place after the Tokyo Olympic Games next year.

In other news from the UAE:

*HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed, United Arab Emirates National Olympic Committee President and Chairman of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Creative Sports Awards, has deferred the Awards Ceremony of the 11th MBR Creative Sports Awards by one year.

This is in consideration of the cancellation and postponement of major global international sports events around the world.

*The UAE NOC announced that the Executive Office of the NOC has agreed to hold a virtual tournament under the auspices of the Gulf Cooperation Council based on the output of a workshop which discussed the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on the sports sector.

*The first Gulf Junior Games in the Emirates have been postponed until 2022, the UAE NOC announced.
