Hong Kong, China, August 4, 2020: The OCA-affiliated Asian Electronic Sports Federation has announced that the inaugural AESF University Championship 2021 Grand Final will take place in the Jinshan District of Shanghai, China in mid-2021.

The announcement follows fruitful discussions between Jinshan District and event organiser Duo Sports Group (DSG).

All in line with the AESF’s commitment to grow and develop Esports in the region at the grassroots level, the game titles and the tournament structure of the AESF University Championship 2021 will be further discussed and confirmed during the committee meeting of the organising committee.

This is AESF’s first step in establishing an Esports development ecosystem at every level. Based  on  the  outcome  of  the  inaugural  AESF  University  Championship,  tournaments  of similar structure but at different levels of participation such as high schoolers and semi-professionals may take place in the near future.

Sebastian Lau, Director-General of the AESF, said: “The AESF University Championship acts as a platform to showcase talent and, hopefully, a stepping stone for something bigger -on a more global scale -in the near future.

“To achieve this, the AESF alongside the University Championship Organising Committee will  form  a  streamlined  competition  structure  which  includes  national,  regional  and continental levels.

“As additional support we will be working closely with game publishers and licensors directly to ensure smooth organisation and professional-level execution of the tournament on all levels of competition.”

The AESF University Championship will be placed under the guidance and leadership of the President of AESF, Kenneth Fok, and led by the University Championship Organising Committee which is chaired by Hideki Okamura, who is also the Chairman of the Japan Esports Union.
