Vietnamese sports authorities organise the Olympic Day Run every year for the health of the people and this year’s event attracted 5,000 runners in 4.5km and 2km races and 25,000 spectators lining the streets of downtown Ho Chi Minh City.

"Ho Chi Minh City organised the Olympic Day Run for the health and the benefit of the entire nation," said Duong Anh Duc, vice chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, at the launch ceremony.

It was a festive occasion with 2,000 school children from 36 elementary schools entertaining roadside spectators who cheered all the runners on. The event took place on July 12.

Vietnam is hosting the 31st Southeast Asian (SEA) Games next year for the 11 National Olympic Committees in the region, from November 21 to December 2, 2021 in the capital Hanoi.
