Hambantota 2011

The inaugural South Asian Beach Games will be hosted in Hambantota, the Southern city of Sri Lanka from 8th ? 14th Sep 2011.

Sri Lanka is famous for her hospitable people of various ethnicity and religions. Hambantota, the bidding City for Commonwealth Games in 2018, is the rising city and has became the obvious choice for the South Asian Beach Games.

The Island of Sri Lanka is now called ?Wonder of Asia? not only because of her achievements so far in displaying her strength, but also the gifted diversity in compactness within short distance of travel from Seductive beaches, magnificent landscapes, and inspiring heritage sites. The nation has considered hosting the 1st South Asian beach Games as a pride of nation.

The Sports chosen would be beach oriented games covering Beach Volleyball, Beach Football, Beach Handball, Beach Netball, Beach Kabadi, Beach Basketball, and Beach Bodybuilding, Life Saving, Equestrian and Triathlon, Swimming, Sailing.

The games expect to draw eight NOCs from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and attract thousands of foreign visitors into the country.

The Authorities have completed the site inspections and have already identified the locations. Arugam Bay, the famous surf location will compliment the games with 3 events namely swimming, sailing-surfing & Beach Cricket.
