Bangkok 1970

The 6th Asian Games were held from August 24, 1970 to September 4, 1970 in Bangkok, Thailand.

Originally hosted by Seoul, Republic of Korea but dropped its bid after receiving security threats from DPR Korea.

Previous host Thailand stepped in to save the Asiad and staged the Games using the funds of the Republic of Korea.

A total number of 2,400 athletes, coming from 18 NOCs, competed in this Asiad, where yachting made its debut.

Officially opened by King Bhumibol Adulyadej Torch Lighter Preeda Chullamondhol Stadium Suphachalasai Stadium.
